Right-Wing Talkers: How Low Will They Go?

Sure, they are contemptible, cynical buffoons; drama queen fearmongers scraping the bottom of the barrel for ratings now that the neocon bubble has burst and they likely don’t believe a word they say. (It’s a performance!) Still, how much pure stupidity and racism do they have to spew before sponsors pull their ads and an outraged public demands their dismissal?

Bernanke and Paulson: A Pig Roast

These video clips from C-SPAN are priceless. They are a great example of why congress needs to be able to audit the Federal Reserve. If your Reps. have not co-sponsored HR 1207 or S 604, give them a call.

Obama’s Birth Certificate and the Wing Nuts: Version 2.0

I first posted this on the bartblog in March. I am updating and reposting it because the right-wing nuts have not yet let this one go. It is now getting even more mainstream media coverage than it was in March. In March this was old news and it’s even older now. Please send this to anyone who believes the lies the right-wing is spreading about Obama’s birth certificate. The right-wing hoopla about Obama’s birth certificate is ridiculous!

The state of Hawaii has legislation prohibiting the release of certain original documents in order to safeguard record-keeping. Only copies of the originals can be released, and to protect against identity theft, copies of birth certificates can only be released to the person named on the certificate. Even CNN quotes the Director of Hawaii’s Dept. of Health regarding this matter:

In June ’08 the Obama campaign released this:

 barack-obamas-birth-certificate

And yes, as per Hawaii state statutes, it is a copy that was reproduced in June 2007 (which explains the modern typeface), but it is also “prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding.” The date/signature stamp and embossed seal are not visible in the photo on Obama’s campaign site because it is on the reverse side of the certificate.

The freepers have claimed that this certificate is a “horrible forgery,” but have yet to produce any evidence to back that claim up. Their approach, straight out of the Nazi playbook, is to make continual accusations and demand that the accused prove their innocence. They hope that simply by repeating a claim often enough, useful idiots will come to believe it. But here in the United States, we follow the principle that the accuser must prove the accused guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt. What that means is that when Barack Obama is accused of fraud, it is they who are required to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Otherwise, we as citizens are obligated to ignore such baseless accusations. Furthermore, since it is a copy that was reproduced from the original long form, that may make it a “forgery” technically speaking, but regardless of copy quality, it is certainly not a forgery by any legal definition. That makes their point as moot and irrelevant as right-wing ideology. Another thing that makes it irrelevant is that under U.S. law, Barack Obama, even if born outside the U.S., is a U.S. citizen. His mother was born and raised in Kansas and met Obama’s father while both of them were attending the University of Hawaii. Because Barack’s mother was a citizen and had lived at least ten years of her life inside the U.S. prior to giving birth, Obama is a U.S. citizen no matter where he was born.

Here’s what an original “long form” birth certificate from Hawaii circa 1961 would actually look like:

The LA Times looked into this:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/06/obama-birth.html

Media matters and FactCheck.org also looked into it:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200810230020?f=h_popular
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

Even the wing-nut conservative WorldNetDaily looked into it and agreed it is authentic, although the link to that is now dead.

While Hillary was still in the running, Lori Starfelt, a member of the PUMA movement in the Democratic Party opposed to Obama’s nomination, nevertheless found a birth announcement in an August 1961 edition of the Honolulu Advertiser. Hawaii has two major newspapers, the Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin. BOTH newspapers include birth announcements, and pages found in the archives of BOTH newspapers record the August 4th, 1961 birth of Barack Obama.

What more do these wing-nuts need…besides a dose of common sense? Does anyone really think that Hillary’s and McCain’s campaigns, the DNC and every other organization either for or against Obama in the election failed to look into this? Or that there was some grand conspiracy by Obama’s parents to smuggle a newborn baby from Kenya into Honolulu to obtain a birth certificate and birth announcements? What is lacking in that story is motive. It’s not like Obama was born with a presidential seal on his scalp and his parents knew back then that Barack needed to be “Natural Born.” Why bother with such a deception, which includes a very risky flight half way around the world with a newborn baby? None of it makes any sense on many different levels.

This is just another example of an attempt by the right-wing to stoke resentment in its minions by playing the race card, and to obstruct the new administration…just like the Nazis did with the Weimar Republic.

Oh, by the way, here is the email address of the “attorney” who is pursuing the “case” against Obama: dr_taitz@yahoo.com. Orly Taitz also represented Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook (R-Racist Coward) in his petition to obtain a temporary restraining order to delay his deployment to Afghanistan based on the false claim that Obama is ineligible to be commander-in-chief.

The Tattlesnake – Ear to the Ground on Health Care Edition

Questions, I Have Questions…

Your (Mostly) Obedient Tattlesnake is waiting for one of our Big Media professional interrogators, such as NBC’s David “We’ll Frame It Your Way!” Gregory, to ask one of these Congressional Republicans hyperventilating against the government paying for health care, why they accept health care paid for by government taxation. To my knowledge, not one member of Congress turns down this platinum perk of office preferring to pay for privatized health care themselves, as they think us average schmoes should do. If privatized for-profit health care is ‘the greatest system in the world,’ why don’t they avail themselves of it using their own money instead of Uncle Sucker’s, i.e. ours? (I won’t hold my breath.)

Speaking of which, when do the BM ‘journalists’ start questioning why the government ‘of, by and for the people’ should be in the business of protecting private for-profit corporations from competition? We know they’ve done this unofficially for generations, but now the merry free-marketeers of the Republican Party and Blue Dog Dem stripe are openly babbling we have to protect the health care industry from ‘unfair competition’ from a public option. Wasn’t their mantra, just a few years ago, that corporations could always do a better job at a lower price than the government? If so, what are they worried about in the realm of health care? Could it be that a public health care option would nakedly expose that lie, and the obscene rip-off that America’s for-profit health insurance system has been for the past forty years?

Beware, beware: Don’t be fooled by the retooled Harry and Louise ads featuring the loathsome couple updating their opposition to health care reform by announcing themselves now ‘for it’ as long as it is ‘bipartisan’ and not ‘political.’ This is wrong on so many levels, the Tattler’s thesaurus begs for new synonyms, but the fact that the health care industry is spending over a million dollars a day to stop health care reform, and Harry and Louise is a part of that effort, should give you a clue as to just how detrimental this industry is to the public health. When Big Medico and Big Pharma use the word ‘bipartisan’ it’s in the corporate Republican sense, as in ‘do it our way.’ What the health insurance industry wants is no public option, and a huge payday in that the taxpayers will foot the bill, at current exorbitant rates, for all of the cases the for-profits currently refuse, such as ‘pre-existing conditions.’ This means we’ll be paying for dollar-a-cap Tylenols and every expensive, unneeded procedure greedy industry types can conjure up, and they, and the hospitals and doctors in on this scam, will get their piece of the very profitable action. Without competition from a public option, health care in this country will be even more expensive, yet not work any better for most of us, it will just cost more. Under the industry no-competition plan, you’ll be able to see your terminally ill relative languish into the Great Beyond at ten times what it costs in civilized nations with single-payer universal health care coverage.

More to come after Obama’s press conference tonight.

Baucus and the Health Care Lobbyists

This article may not be news to a lot of regular Bartcop readers, but ask yourself how this will look to any of the overwhelming majority of voters that support a public health care option: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/20/AR2009072003363.html?hpid=topnews

Excerpt:
“As his committee has taken center stage in the battle over health-care reform, Chairman Baucus (D-Mont.) has emerged as a leading recipient of Senate campaign contributions from the hospitals, insurers and other medical interest groups hoping to shape the legislation to their advantage. …said Aaron Roland, a San Francisco health-care activist who paid half price to attend the gathering. ‘Money gets you in the door. The only thing the other side can do is march around and protest outside.’”

How is anything significant supposed to get done with health care reform when the chairman of the finance committee is bought and paid for by the health care, insurance and drug companies? It is no surprise that a public option has not received support from Baucus’ committee, even though Obama supports a public option.

DINOs like Baucus need to go down in the next election. I think that the Democratic party needs to clearly set itself apart from the GOP in the eyes of voters by moving farther to the left. A centrist approach leaves the door open to a return to power by the Republicans.

I also think Baucus’ office deserves a flood of phone calls!
