There is one reason, IMO, many of the Dems go weak in the knees in the face of the GOP attacks: the threat of losing all of that DLC corporate money arranged for by ‘fixers’ like Rahm Emanuel. Until the Democrats reject this tainted corporate money, they will never effectively fight back.

OTOH, as John Dryden once said, “Beware the fury of a patient man (or woman).” To put it another way, the nutcase Teabaggers are awakening a sleeping giant, since most Americans don’t agree with their crazy-crap Christopublican agenda. I think that will be a major factor in the upcoming elections that the Big Media isn’t covering: would you rather vote for a lame but sane Dem or the GOP goofballs who want to get rid of Social Security and make you pray to Jesus? (Obviously, this is the case in Nevada where the hated Harry Reid is now ahead of Sharron Angle in the polls.) It may save the Dems yet, in spite of themselves.

Plus, the GOP is tearing itself apart trying to satisfy both the party elite and the Teabaggers — it can’t be done.
