I think you’re missing the point. Ms. Pelosi was playing off Gov. Romney’s quote that “corporations are people”. Gov. Romney & his friends have been very concerned with the welfare of Corporate-Americans and have plied them with reduced regulations, reduced taxation, limitations of legal liability, & such.

Ms. Pelosi is pointing out, accurately, that the very workers harmed by the Corporate-American breaks are also people. Ms. Pelosi & her supporters are interested in the welfare of Working-Americans, not Corporate-Americans.
