Jane, the corporations are trying to drive the US into serfdom, including having chidlren compete with adults for unskilled or low-skilled jobs at 'Grapes of Wrath' wages. It's also clear they don't care much if people are forced into crime to feed themselves -- it benefits the private prison industry, and so sends more public money into private corporate coffers. The only thing is: without a viable middle-class, who is going to be paying the taxes to support the private prisons andd bail out the large corporations when they fail? Like the spoiled aristocracy of every age, this current crop haven't thought this through, letting the gleam of gold obscure their vision.

BTW, one theory I heard is that Monsanto has been collecting and preserving healthy bee populations to prevent ordinary people from growing their own crops. Once the wild bees have died off, Monsanto will have the only bees capable of poliinating crops and have their foot on the neck of the world's food supply. I hope it isn't true, but I also can't completely discount it -- after all, they developed seeds that can only be used once and then the farmer has to buy new seed for next year's planting.
