As far as who is more hateful, that’s so obvious it’s not worth comment. However, there is a talk host who is so hateful he sounds liberal – M. Savage. I like his politics, and can’t stand to listen to him. Also Rush (he who’s limo I’m not worthy to wipe the dust off of) tends to bellow and so gets old. If you think he’s hateful, however, you haven’t listened to him.
Atheism is indeed a religion. It points to its God concept and says “I don’t believe in that.” The usual fleshing out of their beliefs is science. Athiests believe they are mud. Nothing more. Your supposed lack of beliefs is in itself a belief system. If you don’t believe that (hee, hee) just listen to yourself when arguing – sounds like a believer to me.
Belief doesn’t get it, as you agree, but this includes in the idea that you are just mud. It’s a belief.

Unlike religions atheism requires no faith in supernatural beings. I think the key with God is the willingness to suspend all reason and logic in order to believe in a supernatural being. That’s faith.

As for beliefs, I have plenty. I believe it is wrong to murder, lie, start wars of choice, take advantage of your fellow man. I believe we have a responsibility to help those in need – say with livable wages and universal health care for instance. If those are not “Godly” they are certainly what Jesus preached. Read the New Testament. Jesus was a liberal.

While there are extremes on either side of any issue I’d have to say the Bush Cult is far more hateful than any liberal I’ve heard. Listen to Beck, Limbaugh, Dobson, O’Rielly, Malkin. Randi Rhodes can’t hold a candle to them for screed and screeching.

I never hinted that athiests are awful, though it seems to go along with liberal beliefs.
Athiesm is another belief system.
I find the libbys hateful enough for all of us. Hopefully that will change soon, it bothers me a lot. Liberals, after all, are Americans and care a lot about this country.
Concerning God, the key word is belief. Belief does not get it, as I said previously. Further, i’ve noticed athiests have no interest in Godly things, and are happy believing they are mud.

I’m certainly a proud, liberal, atheist. Don’t count on me finding “god” anytime soon. There isn’t one. All those people who profess belief in one are delusional and can’t take the reality of life on their own. They have to blame someone or something rather than accept responsibility.

As for Conservatism, I’m all for it. Please stay out of my private life and my bedroom. The idiots in the GOP who say they’re conservative are no such thing.

I wish you all the happiness and success you desire. Being an atheist doesn’t mean being hateful or immoral. I’ll leave that to the Republicans and the Catholic Church.

Harris is right on. However, this doesn’t excuse the Christians, Athiests, or others. The fact is belief doesn’t improve the world much. Religion is supposed to create a good environment for spiritual studies that eventually result in inner experience, not belief.
As a proud liberal and atheist, I hope you see you are at a starting point. You no doubt will eventually end up a God respecting republican, and after many lifetimes may even approach the inner sanctum – Conservatism.
