The way I see it happening about Spitzer is that it was the Lending industry that sought to bring him down.
As Attorney General of New York He actively tried to prosecute the lending institutions from complaints by citizens and publicly.
Spitzer bumped heads with the Office of the Comchequer an obscure branch of the Treasury Dept.
So IMHO,Spitzer had to go before He brought anymore suits against the Lenders and indirectly contradict the Whitehouse appointed cronies.
