>Bush vs Gates - Whos lying?
I'm beginning to think Gates v. Bush will come to a head sometime before spring.
Bush has been spinning the "Isn't the ISG Report wonderful?" trope for nearly two weeks now and after yesterday's press conference with Blair you could see his eyes glazing over.
"...what the Baker-Hamilton study has done is it shows good ideas as to how to go forward."
"I know we have to adjust to prevail, but I wouldn't have our troops in harm's way if I didn't believe that, one, it was important, and, two, we'll succeed."
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/12/20061207-1.html
Remember also that on Dec 6, CBS news reported, "...asked if Baker would help implement the report, a spokesman for Mr. Bush said, "Jim Baker can go back to his day job."
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/12/05/eveningnews/main2232203.shtml
Bush isn't going to admit to making any mistakes nor change his mind about what to do in Iraq. You know it, I know it; time for another glass of egg nog.
The only one who doesn't know it, or rather will not accept it, is Gates. Sure, he's the good old back-slapping buddy for the worst the Republican Party can dredge up but he's not Georgie's back-slapping buddy he's daddy's. I don't think Gates even likes him. Gates is doing this for Baker and Baker is doing this for Poppy. How many times do we have to see George Sr. sobbing on TV before one of his loyal friends (I mean that seriously) steps up and bails out Junior with a bitch-slap? Whether he likes it or not.
The point is that he won't like it. In fact I suspect he'll start pushing back, becoming more unreasonable the more he becomes marginalized by the grown-ups on Capitol hill trying to resolve this mess. Gates and Reid on FTN. Gates and Nancy on MTP. Gates and Condy on Oprah!
There is going to come a time, sometime before spring when George's hamster will fly off the wheel and Gates will be fired; not resign, fired. It will out massacre the "Saturday Night Massacre"
Will there be a convenient Bork around to do the little emperor's bidding? Assuredly so.
Will the SC under Roberts go along with it? There I have my doubts.
More nog anyone?

Regarding the Mary Cheney preganacy:

The old (read: real) conservative ideology favored a small government, individual liberty, and lower taxes. How could anyone be against that?

The neo-cons ("new conservatives") abandoned that "old" ideology in favor of greed, a larger government, more intrusion into people's lives, and temporarily lower taxes. But since they spent like whores at a condom sale, taxes will be raised eventually.

But it's the gay marriage hypocricy that makes me laugh now.

Whether two folks of the same sex get married does in no way alter my marriage to my wife.

I view it this way: this pregnancy thing shoves a thumb in the eye of "conservatives" at the bottom of the pile after the ball carrier's tackled.

I love the smell of "conservative" minds [sic] melting in the morning.

ps: how's that rss feed thing progressing? It doesn't work for me somehow, as I get only the raw html code.
