All insurance can be seen as socialism. Single payer is the same thing except with a bigger group.

Peregrin, I like your thinking. People don’t consider the expense of a hospital when they are in life danger, and insurance companies, like the fed govt, don’t care.
I still suggest the idea of not-for-profit hospitals and HMO’s (if they can’t be got rid of).
Single payer health care run by the fed govt is a bad idea. It’s pure socialism and won’t improve things.

Bitter, this is a different tune than I heard by the Main Scream media when GW went into VA hospitals and pledged to improve things. But, then, we are talking about the Main Scream Media, aren’t we. I hope you are correct.

And the VA works fine. My husband uses it. Good basic healthcare. Prescriptions are cheap.
Take it as a model and allow the insurance companies to sell supplemental policies for extras.

A government takeover of healthcare has never been seriously considered except by those who specialize in setting up straw men. What we need to do is get insurance companies out of the picture. They serve no purpose in any industry other than to bleed off as much profit as possible.

When we speak of the establishment of “universal health care,” we are speaking of making health care affordable for every American. This is called “patriotism” and “compassion.” It is a nod to the fact that we are all in the same boat here. If the lower levels are filling up with water, then it’s only a matter of time before the upper luxury decks are below sea leve as well.

We all benefit when those at the bottom do better. This is not “socialism” – it’s plain economics.

One more thing.
Concerning the govt takeover of healthcare, giving the stupid what they think will be FREE healthcare, let’s look at the past track record of the fed govt.
They already have 40% of the healthcare in this nation according to His Most Wonderfulness Who Is Never Wrong, Rush Limbaugh.
How have they done?
How good is Medicare and V.A. healthcare, for example?

As a conservative, I’m against govt take over of health care, yet see the problem.
How about not-for-profit hospitals instead?
Would not-for-profit hospitals still have the urge to improve and give quality care (something they would immediately lose if they became part of the fed govt)?
Is it possible that not-for-profit hospitals would actually be better than what we have now because they would be more interested in CURING
