"And since 2000, the median income of all Americans has actually slipped,"
I notice that you fail to mention that at the same time, since 2000, the federal government has increased by 40% thanks to George W. Bush.
I say this is a huge factor in income slippage. Increasing amounts of money from the people moving into the coffers of the fed govt., along with inflation (which is another form of the same thing)is causing people to become poor. More govt. = poorer people.

RS, concerning your comment:"I heard a good portion of the clip wherein ‘His Most Wonderful Greatness’ said he hoped Obama failed. He was nattering on about some publisher asking him to do a book forward on his opinion of Obama and he said he could sum it up in four words: “I hope he fails.” He wasn’t taken out of context and I didn’t misunderstand what he said. Stop trying to make excuses for him — it’s pathetic."

I set up my fruit on my glittering Rush alter and did my cacantitories non-stop braying forth with non-ceasing litanies (both as leader and congregation) until at last I reached the higher planes of conservatism. There He (who's tuxedos I am not worthy to take to the cleaners) graciously granted me audience.
"Oh Great Maharushi," I said, "RS has profaned you mightily! But I ask your forgiveness. These liberals know not what they do."
He smiled all-knowingly, serenely, and nodded his head.
RS, you are forgiven. Go and begin to take up national issues and write about them. Begin to use your excellent pen to help the country. All is forgiven. Sin no more, my child.

"I have no problem with revamping the tax code and making it simpler and, especially, cutting out all of the loopholes that allow profitable companies and individuals to avoid paying taxes."
Neither does anyone else. But each time it's been tried it has failed. Maybe Stalin like individuals are involved in our tax code as well.
I say no more taxing of those earning a paycheck until the money is spent. We should be getting all the money we earn.

Grim, have you ever heard of Union Carbide in India, or some of the other deadly pollution that CEO's have sanctioned? How about here in our own country where Ford execs okayed not lining the Pinto gas tank to prevent explosions on impact beause they figured paying off lawsuits by the families of the dead would be cheaper than recalling the cars and fixing the tanks? (I could go on.)

How about our proud mercenaries in Iraq -- Blackwater, etc.? Although the Pentagon and State Department conveniently haven't kept accurate figures, these hired guns have definitely murdered and maimed a pile of Iraqs. For that matter, look at the entire Iraq War-- an opportunity to make a Disaster Capitalism profit as the country is taken back to the Stone Age and the people die of bombing and preventable disease.

Sorry, Grim, you're wrong -- go through the whole history of corporate involvement in promoting war, from killing Native-Americans in the Western US for the railroads to the Spanish-American War and WW1, to 'taming' Central America for Dole fruit, et al -- and the resulting casualties of the 'little people' and you'll find many more than Stalin's 10 million corpses there.

I suggest you read USMC Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler, recipient of TWO Congressional Medals of Honor, for some enlightenment on this issue. Here's the link to Butler's "War is a Racket": http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm

It starts off by saying, "War is a racket. It always has been." And goes on to point out, "[War] is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

RS, get a grip. Stalin killed people, estimates are around 10,000,000. Ten million!
That's not the way your typical evil American rich person runs stuff.
There's supposed to be rules to the capitalism game here in the USA. For example, as I’ve said previously, UPS would show Fed Ex about as much pity as a snake eating a rat, so there’s gotta be rules.
Our fed govt hasn’t been doing its job. For instance, our tax code is 67,000 pages long. How is that possible?
Because business has lobbied for advantages, that would have been resisted by an honest Congress, for decades. You see the results.
We need a better playing field for business to work within. And we need the rules enforced.
Mexico comes to mind. Bribery is a way of life there, and is a hidden tax on everything. So the country stays poor.
We are moving in that direction and need to put a stop to it.
Please, please read the FairTax books.
