I often wonder just how much he made for his endorsements of bose and such. he must have made a killing with these radio commercials.

I used to have to listen to Harvey’s BS at work. In those days, he was always babbling about how great Reagan was — a ‘real’ American hero — and that Joe McCarthy was some kind of misunderstood saint. He also apparently endorsed the infamous ‘blacklist’ since certain people were so anti-American — y’know, like actor John Garfield or writer Dalton Trumbo.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but the guy was a fruitcake and a fount of cheesy, hokey right-wing Americana — a smarmier version of Limbaugh — with all the charm of a slimy TV evangelist.

And, yes, that doing ads in the same tone as news items was annoying as hell, too.

Grrr, Paul Harvey… I was listening to Paul Harvey, during the 2004 election I think, when I heard Paul giving a brief history of America and why its so great. He declared that slavery and the killing off of natives was merely “greasing the skids of capitalism”. Man was I pissed off that day.

It was after this that I noticed Paul Harvey uses the same tone of voice when doing a news item or commercial. It seems very deceptive to blurr the line between reported fact and paid endorsement. What is up with talk radio commercials anyway? What is it about the listeners that makes people want to sell them gold and temperpedic matresses?
