YOS, the fact is, Obama has presented the kind of evidence that would stand up in a court of law, but that doesn’t matter. Whatever the proof is — a stamped birth certificate, birth announcements from the two major daily newspapers in Honolulu, a statement from the Hawaii Sec. of State — it’s never enough for the crazy ‘birthers.’ If you live in a world where facts don’t matter, and you’re a closet racist desperately trying to justify your racism, evidence is superfluous.

What I’m waiting for is some clever progressive with a national audience — maybe Mike Moore or Keith Olbermann — to demand proof that Inhofe or Sessions were born in this country and see what those two dingbats produce to prove it. Bet it’s a ‘short-form’ birth certificate and birth announcments from the local papers.

“The freepers have claimed that this certificate is a “horrible forgery,” but have yet to produce any evidence to back that claim up.”

So Nancy Pelosi hasn’t “proved” she wasn’t told about torture being done; something one can neither prove or disprove since it consists of proving something doesn’t exist, is enough “evidence” to convict her in their mines, but all of this proves nothing?

What planet do they live on and perhaps we could send the rest of our most severe mental cases there?

Thanks for posting this, Greg, but, as you mention, this is an textbook example of Goebbels ‘Big Lie’ technique: keep repeating some asurb thing — and the more absurd the better — until people hear it so often they begin to believe there must be something to it. (Facts need not apply.)

I saw this happen in 2004 with the infamous Swift Boating of John Kerry — some people started out thinking that it was ridiculous — the US Navy doesn’t hand out medals for valor wihtout good cause — but after a month of the SB Vets bilgewater, they were saying things like, “I don’t know — a lot of people are saying Kerry’s war record is a fake just to get him elected.”

When I pointed out that this would mean the US Navy forged its own records in anticipation of Kerry running for president 30 years in the future, they’d respond, “Yeah, but where there’s smoke there’s fire.”

The GOP and the right-wingers are on a slide to oblivion, they’re desperate, they’re clinging to anything to bring down Obama, and the people who pay attention to them have a well-known aversion to reality and factuality. Like Kerry’s medals, they hope this suspicion breaks out into the public at large.

What I think Obama and the Dems should do is challenge every Republican in Congress and the right-wing media to post their birth certificates, and then subject themto the same twaddle as the Freepers have to Obama’s birth certificate.

The biggest laugh I’ve had this morning came from this quote from the Daughter of Satan’s Dick: “I think the Democrats have got more crazies than the Republicans do.” (As quoted by the AP
