Responding to the later post about gas prices, it has gone up over 20 cents here in Washington state since the election, but then it didn’t go down near as much as the rest of the country, after all we’re a blue state and they pretty much screw us anyway!!

Why Are They Gunning for Howard Dean?

What can possibly account for the post-election victory party pummeling of Howard Dean by inside-the-beltway Democrats? Prominent Democratic consultants (James Carville, Stan Greenberg) go on the record (“you can quote me”) with complaints barely two weeks from a Democratic sweep. Leading congressional Democrats (Rahm Emmanuel) vent their anger vociferously (“on background”). Why? Dems now control both Houses and have twenty-eight governorships. Dean ought to be congratulated. So what’s the underlying agenda here? Three theories:

1. The only way a Dem gets on television after such a sweet victory isn’t by criticizing Republicans – it’s by criticizing fellow Dems. Stirring up clear waters grabs attention. Attention draws crowds. Crowds create power. Power is the name of the game in Washington, especially when formal control of Congress changes hands.

2. Dean’s strategy of putting money into state party infrastructure takes money out of the pockets of Washington insiders – away form Democratic consultants and key congressional party activists. That makes insiders angry.

3. Dean is an independent DNC chair, not under the sway of the Clintons. Unlike Ron Brown, who guided the DNC toward a Clinton victory in 1992, Dean doesn’t play the usual power games. Hence, the Clintons would like him out, and the sooner the better. Carville, Greenberg, and Emmanuel, among others, are doing their bidding.

Which is it? I’m not so cynical or conspiratorial as to believe any one of them. But you come up with a more credible theory.

That’s what kills me about the public face of the right wing: when they get a chance to strut in front of the cameras, they dress their kids up like…like…like.. hell, I dunno, I don’t think anyone ever dressed that way except on Lil’ Debbie boxes, and that probably wasn’t even a real kid.

Anybody here remember the Roberts Supreme Court stuff, when he does his press confo with his kids there dressed in lederhosen and who knows what, like it was the friggin’ Sound of Music or something? These people are clearly nuts, not because they’d do that to their kids in the first place, but because they’d think they were somehow scoring points with the public in so doing.

Then again, Bush is still hovering at just over 30% in the polls…we might just be the dumbest post-dark-ages civilization yet.

I think the Haliburton war profiteering investigations will eventualy lead to bi-partison impeachment hearings. The Bushies have committed an overwhelming amount of crimes, it’s just a matter of getting things on record one at a time and then seeing who wants to act like nothing happened. The likes of Senators Inhofe and Coleman will do that, they will go down with the ship. Others will want to keep their jobs and salvage their pathetic party, the GOP, a.k.a. Gang of Pigs. Gay Old Pedophiles. Call it what you want. Impeachment was not put permanently off the table, it was just not put first in line, but I believe it is inevitable.

Now that the Democrats have taken the House and Senate, we can set the agenda, but we still need to put pressure on the Republicans to pass legislation. The Chimp still has a veto.

The Republicans in the senate will not filibuster Democratic legislation and The Chimp will not veto Democratic legislation if thousands of people call his contibutors and tell their CEO tell the Chimp not to block Democratic legislation or we will never buy your products again.

Hey Bart,
I finally decided to say hi again after many years. I remember after 9/11 you were showing pictures of America to remind us how beautiful our country is and one of them was of my beach. I sent you an email and you answered. We are in the middle of a full gale at the moment but it is still beautiful. I think that if Howard Dean and you were running this country we would bew a lote better off.

I usually don’t do blog stuff — but I have been a BartReader for years and a BartFan from the first day I went to his website. The first time I went to his website (in his Blue Period) I spend two entire days (even late into the night) going through all of his Previous Issues.
