There was a movie version of ‘TMC’ in 1970 with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, but I didn’t like it as much as the book that came out in the early ’60s. Even with a script by Southern, John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Sellers, it just wasn’t as funny as the book. (But ‘Dr. Strangelove’ was excellent, of course.)

Fascinating RS,I just looked the Book and author up for some history and discovered that the book Magic Christian
was given to Stanley Kubrick
by Peter Sellers.
Kubrick brought in Mr. Southern as a writer on Doctor Strangelove when He decided to make it a comedy.Thanks RS!

Rain, I was thinking of this as a test for office in the US, based on a scene from Terry Southern’s “The Magic Christian.”

All of a candidate’s campaign contributions are converted into single dollar bills and deposited in a large vat of piss and shit. The candidate is then judged on just how much piss and shit he is willing to swim through for money. Every candidate who dives in the pool is automatically excluded from running for office — they have shown themselves as too greedy to be trusted. Those that refuse will then be allowed to run. If all of the candidates dive in the piss and shit, then we find new candidates. (BTW, the candidates who ‘take the plunge’ don’t get to keep the money.)

If I’m ever president(unlikely)
I’m going to institute a mandatory post-high two year
program either in the peace corp. or a branch of the military before citizenship is considered.
A civic’s test will have a rather steep curve to pass before any candidate can be considered eligible to recieve campaign moneys from the government election fund.
Campaign donations and gifts shall be considered bribery and will be punishable by prison or deportation to any of the U.S. colonies such as Guam,Mariannas,Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands.
that should help put a stop to the nitwit values pukes who run on “The Book” and reap about 99% of the corporate corruption out of the political system as it stands today.
If a test is necessary to gain a civil servant job then it should be vital so that the village idiot’s do not end up in office just because their piety and
unctuousness appeals to the simpletons all around this country.
God may watch over this Country but he sure as hell
isn’t going to lift a finger
to help it if it is run by sheep shaggers and tosser’s.
Fuck Cantor,He wouldn’t last a week as a fry cook at Mickey Dee’s!

Bruce is right, but I also think of that Mark Twain quote whenever I see the slimy Cantor on TV:

“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.”

Still, Cantor gives every indication of being an imbecile who really means it — as long as he’s making money at it, of course.
