		<description><![CDATA[I did read Bartcop, but I was in a hurry and  missed that Gene Lyons piece. I just read it and it didn&#039;t change my impression of what Blumenthal did regarding his service record.

Blumenthal&#039;s statements still left the erroneous impression he had served in Vietnam with many audiences in CT, albeit the NY Times blew it way out of proportion, as they did the nothingburger &#039;Whitewater&#039; deal. Put it this way: Blumenthal&#039;s a very smart guy and he&#039;s articulate; leaving the impression you were in combat through vague or indirect references may be a &#039;lite&#039; lie, but it&#039;s still padding your military resume for political advantage, although not to the extent Kirk has done it, and still gets the Bronx cheer from me.]]></description>
