Late last week, the first round of post-RNC convention polls showed that John McCain was the beneficiary of a generous 11-point bump in public approval. Most of this shift is attributable to previously undecided voters who’ve broken in McCain’s favor. The reason given by the vast majority as to what precipitated their decision: Palin. Amongst these voters, three subgroups emerged as overwhelmingly shifting to the McCain/Palin ticket over the Obama/Biden one in the past week: women, Catholics, and self-identified moderates. At first glance, these changes in opinion might seem unsurprising given the intensely populist tone that pervaded every convention speech from Monday through Thursday. But look below the surface, and these shifts seem positively surreal. Is it possible that voters have, once again, been duped by the Rovian rhetoric machine? Are we really as gullible as the GOP seems to think? Apparently so.

It was almost shocking. Not quite the real thing, because we’re largely desensitized to the unremitting pageantry of Republican racketeering, a bit like professional electricians who’ve been zapped so many times they scarcely even notice the sting of live voltage.

But it was, let’s just say, an eye-opener:

There, Friday morning, appeared John McCain on “The View,” confessing to attempted political blackmail as a defense against the charges of slander, libel, swindling, fraud, misrepresentation, mythomania, confidence gaming and character defamation.

The privately owned Federal Reserve Bank is about to wave its magic wand and create, with just a few keystrokes, over one trillion dollars. This money will be lent to the Bush Junta, at interest of course, in order to solve the crisis currently engulfing US financial institutions. What is happening, in summary, is that a few CEO’s made billions of dollars on shady deals, and now a private company called the Federal Reserve is going to own your great-grandchildren. (more…)

What can we make of Sarah Palin?  She is a woman, looks normal, acts normal on the stump, but is she normal?  I would say she is not.  She is a misogynist and perhaps that is the most disturbing thing about her.

I do not understand why so little is being written about this fact, or the mainstream media has not picked up on it, not to mention bloggers.  Honestly, the silence is confusing. (more…)

Alaska AG: State employees won’t honor subpoenas

JUNEAU, Alaska – Alaska’s investigation into whether Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, a potentially damaging distraction for John McCain’s presidential campaign, ran into intensified resistance Tuesday when the attorney general said state employees would refuse to honor subpoenas in the case.

Newspapers Deliver Millions of RIGHT WING “Terror” DVDs ‘OBSESSION’ to Subscribers – in “Swing States”

    New York – The arrival of tens of millions of DVDs of a controversial film on doorsteps around the nation – but almost exclusively in election “swing states” – via newspaper home delivery continues this weekend, with explanatory articles and subscriber feedback appearing on some of the papers’ Web sites.

    The DVDs of the 60-minute film, made in 2005, and titled “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West,” arrived Saturday with, among other papers, the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer in Raleigh, with delivery with the Miami Herald and other papers set for Sunday.
