McCain ad makes fun of Obama’s appearance

Check out this ad from McCain’s website and tell me if Obama was justified in saying that they are going after the way he looks. Of course he was. The ad even puts his face on our currency. Obama was just stating the obvious.

The New American Empire

Congress no longer chooses to read new legislation before voting it into law. Bills are switched at the last minute for unread, substitute legislation. New laws say ANYONE can now be followed and watched – for ANY reason… or for NO reason. …. and the list goes on…

KFC In Fallujah? Too Finger-Licking Good To Be True

By jelliott – August 4, 2008, 5:12PM

Last Thursday, Fox News ran a brief segment on a KFC restaurant opening in Fallujah before segueing into an interview with former CENTCOM Commander Tommy Franks, who was asked to comment on the presence of an American fast food restaurant in the notoriously violent Iraqi city. “Do they have a drive-thru window?” Steve Doocy asks. “They get in and get out. And, so far, they do it safely,” answers Brian Kilmeade:

Now, call us cynical, but something about that segment seemed off — oddly upbeat even. On Friday I put in a call to KFC headquarters

KBR bans use of personal phones in Iraq

This weekend, defense contracting giant KBR announced it would ban the use of personal cell phones by its employees in Iraq, citing no specific reason. Though KBR has not indicated the ban is related to the numerous allegations of rape of female KBR employees by their male coworkers, the ban could endanger future victims. Jamie Leigh Jones, the first victim to come forward publicly, explained that after she was gang-raped by coworkers and held in a shipping container for days, (more…)

GOP tries to scare new voters away

Virginia’s GOP tries to scare new voters away from the polls.

IN VIRGINIA, as in other states, loads of first-time voters are registering to cast ballots in the fall elections. Through the first six months of this year, 147,000 people, almost half under the age of 25, registered in the commonwealth, a figure that election officials say is unprecedented. As registration drives accelerate, including those run by the Barack Obama campaign and its allies, it’s no wonder that Republicans are increasingly anxious about retaining their hold on a state that GOP presidential candidates have carried since 1968. What is surprising is their utterly baseless charge of “coordinated and widespread voter fraud . . . throughout Virginia.”

PARIS HILTON FOR PRESIDENT

Hilton ‘enters’ election race with spoof ad

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Paris Hilton has thrown her hat into the US presidential race, declaring her desire to campaign against “that wrinkly white-haired guy” and threatening to paint the White House pink if elected.

The blond socialite responded to Republican candidate John McCain’s controversial use of her image in a campaign television spot last week with a satirical ad of her own posted on the website Funnyordie.com  on Tuesday.

(see video @ http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/64ad536a6d)

In the ad, the 27-year-old appears reclining on a sun lounger beside a swimming pool, dressed only in a skimpy leopard-print bathing costume.

“Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too,” Hilton declares breezily. “Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot.

“But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude, and I want America to know I’m, like, totally ready to lead.”

Paris Hilton’s mom takes offense at McCain’s humor

WASHINGTON – Paris Hilton’s mother doesn’t share John McCain’s sense of humor.

McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, said last week that his campaign ad mocking Democrat Barack Obama with images of Hilton and singer Britney Spears was part of an attempt to inject humor into the presidential race.

On Sunday, Hilton’s mother, Kathy Hilton, a McCain donor, registered her disapproval.

“It is a complete waste of the country’s time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs,” Kathy Hilton said

Book says White House ordered forgery

Mike Allen Tue Aug 5, 12:23 AM ET

A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.

Suskind writes in “The Way of the World,” to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery – adamantly denied by the White House – was designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.

The author also claims that the Bush administration had information from a top Iraqi intelligence official “that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq – intelligence they received in plenty of time to stop an invasion.”

Schwarzenegger cuts state worker jobs, moves to cut pay

By Kevin Yamamura – kyamamura@sacbee.com

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order today eliminating jobs for an estimated 10,300 temporary state employees and reducing pay for about 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum wage of $6.55 per hour, portraying it as a stopgap measure to ensure the state can pay its bills without a state budget.
