Pink tutus fail to fight again

Filed under: Uncategorized — brew @ 1:12 pm

Next Monday, Mark Udall (D-CO) is going to introduce a resolution condemning Rush Limbaugh for his “phony soldiers” comment.

Condemning Limbaugh might feel good, but what the Senate and House ought to do instead is use the power of the purse to ban him from Armed Forces Radio.

Limbaugh has given them the perfect excuse.  All they have to say is that we can’t have our soldiers in a war zone listening to a lying blowhard who condemns them and their service.

That would leave a mark, and also show they weren’t a bunch of pussies.

Which means it won’t happen.

The Democrats are very, very disappointing.

  1. Brew, I listened to His Greatness, He Who Is Always Right, justify his comment. This isn’t over. He advised congressmen to listen to both sides before coming to the floor and bashing him. He called the fake soldier a fake soldier. Much to do about nothing.
Concerning the “pussies” congressmen, what do you think about term limits as a possible solution?

  2. The Federal Courts have already ruled that term limits are unconstitutional, so it would require a constitutional amendment. That isn’t going to happen. Even if it did, I don’t think it would change much. The sad fact is that the overwhelming majority of the broadcast media is a vast disinformation machine. Until that changes, I have no hope.

All you need to do to understand why is go read the comments of any of the large right wing blogs (at least those that allow comments). The number of severely delusional people on the right is simply too large, and the infrastructure that reinforces their false world views is too pervasive and efficient.

Rational people are like the plains indians in the 1860s. The irrational people are the whites headed our way. And the broadcast media are the railroads being built to bring them to us in the most technologically efficient manner possible.

The flood of stupidity, and the networks that enforce and expand their ignorant dogma, are simply too vast to stop it from drowning the entire world is a sea of irrational wingnuttery.

Fasten your seat belts. We are attacking Iran.

  3. I think you underestimate people a little. Talk radio and the internet is more of a salvation than anything else. Wingnuttery (I like your word) is quickly modified when info spreads quickly. Take for example, the effort by both sides in congress to shove and kick through the latest amnesty bill. The public found out about it too quickly in Feinstein and McCain’s opinions. Thanks to efforts of people like you and it failed.
So take heart! The world isn’t coming to an end yet and with a little work we can make America a better place.
