BARACK OBAMA’S OWN WORDS

Barack Obama Running on his Religion

  [IT WORKED FOR BUSH!]

During his triumphant campaign in South Carolina, Barack Obama distributed a flyer in which he announced the spiritual dimension of his mission, running as a “committed Christian.” This caused a certain amount of consternation on the secular left.

It was a remarkable move, perhaps born of a desire to refute rumors that Obama is a Muslim. But by publishing and distributing the pamphlet, Barack Obama officially placed his religion in the political sphere, and highlighted the importance of understanding the particular brand of Christianity he practices. Now consider Barack Obama’s own words about how he became to be a Christian, and in what context:
It’s around that time that some pastors I was working with came around and asked if I was a member of a church. “If you’re organizing churches,” they said, “it might be helpful if you went to a church once in a awhile. And I thought, “I guess that makes sense.”
“That time” refers to his work as a “community organizer” for the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago. As Kyle-Anne Shiver wrote on AT:

Both the CCRC and the DCP were built on the Alinsky model of community agitation, wherein paid organizers learned how to “rub raw the sores of discontent,” in Alinsky’s words.

Alinsky instructed his followers in the art of using churches as bases for social activism.

  1. I also heard that just before he ran for state assembly, he left the moslem religion and became a ‘Christain.’

  2. grimgold, I have read that too but have not found any evidence, yet. I stumbled on this quite by accident while searching for something else. I have read that he was an Atheist before the preacher in the article convinced him that “religion” could be financially and politically advantageous.

I for one am sick and tired of the “god told me to…” hypocrites who lead the ignorant and the gullible under the guise of being a chosen one “on a mission from god!

Have we not learned anything from “I’m on a mission from GOD.” Bush who stated, “I trust I speak for GOD”, and “GOD told me to bomb Iraq and I did.”?

More abuse occurs in the name of God than in the name of Satan.

  3. What we have to remember is that they are in politics and if history can teach us one thing is never to trust them. They always will tell you what you want to hear or what it will take to get in office. The reason he is a “committed Christian.” is because there are more Christian voters than Muslim. If there were more Muslim voters he would have never made that statement.

  4. Grimgold, that’s not true, Obama was never a Muslim at any time, and I speak from the position of knowing several of his relatives.

His Kenyan father, whom he never knew, abandoned the Muslim religion as an adult and became an atheist.

His stepfather was a non-practicing Muslim, and his mother was never a Muslim. In fact, she educated him on the tenets of many religions.

He joined that church 20 years ago, long before he entered politics, but I guess you’d say that that was a calculation on his part. I don’t know if it was or not, but if you don’t have proof that it’s true, it smacks of John Kerry ‘altering’ his war record because he ‘knew’ he was going to run for public office some day.

Of course he used Alinsky’s principles of organizing, as do many liberals — mainly because they work. He was trying to do some good for the unemployed steelworkers on Chicago’s South Side, but I’m sure you can spin that to look devious as well.

Should we comb through Hillary’s record and cite each postition that may have been calculated, as the right wingers do?
