Moroni Without the “I” Spells MORON

Filed under: Uncategorized — daveb @ 4:07 pm

Mitt Romney is running for President. Mitt Romney is a Mormon. Why should this matter to you and me? Well; of all the bullshit, religious, idiot cults Mormons seem to be the most gullible cult. Really. They believe an angel named Moroni delivered “Golden Plates” with text written in Egyptian to Joseph Smith in the 1800s. Say what??? Does anyone think this is a bit odd? And, is someone who believes that crap a person we want for a President? Reality Check. Bush (Evangelical Christian) – need I say more?

Many people may read this and think I’m a bigot toward the Mormon religion. My response to that is – damn straight I am. Any objective person who isn’t afraid to criticize a religion, any religion, would certainly have to point to the Mormons as prime fodder for ridicule. To be fair, I have to say I regard all religions with the highest disdain. There is not a one that, in my opinion, deserves the respect and following the least of them enjoys.

But let’s get back to Mitt and his particular cult. The story of the Mormons is colorful. Founder Joseph Smith is said to have been visited by the angel Moroni. That angel delivered to Smith golden plates that are the source for the Book of Mormon. This all happened in the 1820s in New York. New York? Not exactly an area one would call the “Holy Land.”

So, let’s ponder the “facts.” An angel visited some schmuck, con-man Joseph Smith and transferred to him golden plates with writing that Smith could not possibly have been able to read. Yet he did; and it became the Book of Mormon. Oh, by the way, those golden plates disappeared. Or was it that Moroni took them back with him to heaven. Nothing fishy about that at all.

Smith maintained that the golden plates were written in a Egyptian dialect which he could read. He had no training in the classics or in modern or ancient Egyptian. I’m sure Moroni helped him out.

Now would be a good time to mention that Smith used “seer stones” and divining rods. Both of which are foolish folk magic devices. Did I mention Smith had some legal troubles concerning his seer stones that hinted at fraud? Apparently a few farmers looking for treasure thought Smith could help them with is “talents” and stones. Unfortunately Smith was not a bid hel.

I could go on but why? The facts are pretty clear. Smith was a con man who started a following of people by telling them they were a lost Jewish tribe. That tribe made it to America thousands of years ago. Ignore the categorization of this fantasy as a religion and you too will ridicule it.

The sad fact is this Mitt Romney’s religion. He believes the indefensible, just plain stupid, tale from a con man. Is that what we want for a President? Haven’t incurious George’s Christian beliefs been enough of a problem for us these last few years?

I mean really! How many fools must we suffer?
