McCain camp prays for Palin wedding

The marriage of the vice-presidential candidate’s pregnant teenage daughter could lift a flagging campaign

September 28, 2008

In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.

Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

There is already some urgency to the wedding as Bristol, who is six months pregnant, may not want to walk down the aisle too close to her date of delivery. She turns 18 on October 18, a respectable age for a bride — and the same age as Barack Obama’s pregnant mother when she married his Kenyan father. The Democrat has already declared Bristol’s private life off-limits as far as his campaign is concerned.

The selection of Palin, 44, the moose-hunting governor of Alaska, as his running mate was one of McCain’s biggest gambles. It paid off handsomely at first, but she could benefit from a fresh injection of homespun authenticity, the hallmark of her style, provided by her daughter’s wedding after appearing out of depth away from her home state.

Everyone will watch this wedding if it happens, in the same way that everyone slows down to look at a car wreck.

  1. I think Peoples minds are made up and this jump the shark wedding is not going to change perceptions
    to any great degree.
Who this stunt will appeal to are the white trash fundita’s and we all know that they would vote for a blind mule rather than vote for a black man no matter how bad things are.
It is just another sleazy attempt to gather the women voters into the booths to vote for Palin/McCain ’08.

Those People in the Toon resemble my neighbors here in Inhoffe holler USA.
They are the ones who cant have sex without having a drunken knock-down drag-out at 4 o’clock a.m and keep the COPS and film crews on my lawn till 6 o’clock Momday then its Oh God! and Hallelujah! till 7:30.

Anyone know where I can find white neighbors that arent white trash?
I tried Canada and bless my soul they are even thicker with them than arkansas was.
    Maybe Iceland?
    uh second thought,never mind.

  2. Rain, don’t even consider my area in guv. clutch-n-grabber’s northern Kallifonia. Most of the whites here are on ‘disability’ or collecting welfare (semi-literate, 100 percent republican but never registered or voted and love W and his war). Their ‘disability’ doesn’t keep them from working under the table cutting and selling wood though!

I have Mexicans on both sides raising fighting cocks (loud crowing and squawking day and night). Although not allowed in this area the authorities won’t do anything about it. Half of the family on one side is made up of illegals who know how to milk the system dry here and in nearby Oregon as well. They have been POed at me for 6 years because I wouldn’t register their car in my name. They couldn’t register it without proper papers that they couldn’t get being illegal. Also I wouldn’t let one of their 3 families move in with me. I get the impression the ones on the other side are running a bunk house for illegals as well as fighting cocks. Over the last year there have been over 60 small Mexican males and a few females living there for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and then they are moved to another location. There has been about three to four dozen fairly late to new vehicles, mostly big 4 door trucks with expensive boomboxes playing obscene gangsta rap full blast coming and going as the human traffic changes. I don’t know how those poor but honest farm workers can afford such vehicles when I couldn’t afford the insurance on one after working two jobs most of my life.
I won’t bore you with the details but they are really nasty neighbors.

The Dems say the Palin kids are off limits but it is Palin and the repugs that constantly USE THE KIDS for photo-ops trying to make her look like a good mommy and appeal to the white mommies and women who backed Hillary. The looks on the faces of Palin’s children make me feel sad, they are tired and bored and they know that they are only props in the photo-ops. How do I know? My father did the same thing with me from the time I was 5. He was a wheel in the union and drug me around to all of them.

  3. Kerry,
Some of My fondest childhood memories are from visiting Mom’s folks in California.
They were forced to move there during the dust bowl to find work and would’nt you know, they did
    all right.
My Grandmother lived behind Buck Owens, another Okie.
He used to sit by his pool and drink all day while scantily clad Women brought him drinks and little sandwiches,I was especially tickled when Grandma would holler out her kitchen window while doing dishes:”Buck close your robe,The horses are getting out of the barn!”
He would laugh and wave and invite us all for
    dinner.
The Mears family lived just a few doors down and I was thrilled at the evening Grand Prix through the neighborhood with the police of all people spectating.

My Uncle lived in Fairfield and would take us into San Fran and the Napa valley and sometimes Sacramento where My Mom worked at Del Monte and taught school during WW2 where she met My dad.

My brother lived in Marysville and from there
We’d go and see the Redwoods and of all places Donners Pass.

Every where We’d go We would just start talking to People and immediately They would know where We were from just by the accent,
Everyone it seems has relatives from here or knows someone who moved there.
I’m not too sure if People were just shining Me on but I always seemed to find People who would ask if the Cowboys and Indians were still
    fighting it out.
I had to admit it was true just that they did’nt use tomahawks and henry rifles usually just bottles and poolsticks.
I dont know what it is but this is the fist fighting-est place, but usually folks just have a beer after its done with no hard feelings once the contraryness gets sorted out.
Not like back east at all.

The Mexican Folks around here are the best,
at least they were before that Rethug Moron got that law passed,
I always treated those Folks with respect seeing as how My Folks had gone through similar
circumstances and for them though it was caused
by greed under the NAFTA land grab rather than
the stupidity of Our own agriculture and the global warming of the day.
Now the small buisnesses are going belly-up
and the pawnshops are loaded floor to ceiling
with tools and the auctions of office equipment
    are a weekend long event.
I wish I could meet that Jerk and and tell him to his face,”Nice going,Dipshit!”
His latest bill attempts to profile People who dress a certain way and have tattoo’s as Gangsta’s and would be eligible for immediate
search and seizure completely against their constitutional rights.
I dont imagine We’ll be hearing a lot about this Guy after the November elections at least I hope.

Child prodigies,Yeah,I was a fiddler so I was forced to make all the Bluegrass festivals down in little dixie.
I guess thats why I rebelled and took to the electric guitar and played southern rock at the rodeo’s and biker bars and county fairs.
    Seems silly now.

I feel sorry for the Palin Kids but then again
I’ll bet They dont turn down any perks from Mama’s celebrity later on.

    Cheers Rain.
