Is Al Franken too gullible to be a Senator?
I listened to his radio show while it was on (even though it jumped the shark with Katherine Lampher left) and he said that he believed Colin Powell back when he wasn’t running for anything, as did most of us. I was against the war from the start, but the Bush Administration did a great job of scaring the crap out of us and making us think that if we didn’t go after Saddam, we’d get hit again.
A Senator can only make decisions based on the information he has, not a “hunch”. When that information turns out to be bogus, the rules put in place that they are to investigate and find out what went wrong. The problem with the Iraq war intelligence is that no one has been held accountable for the lies.
It’s the same reason you have to take impeachment “off the table.” To go after someone legally, you have to build you case and gather the evidence. On CSI, they don’t just throw a suspect in jail when they get a hunch, they gather the evidence and make it so a jury has all of the possible proof. I expect my Senator to use the evidence they are given, and if it’s been falsified, to gather the evidence to throw the liar in jail.
So, I don’t think he’s too gullible. I do think he’ll follow the process and go after the lairs, which the Congres hasn’t done…
…yet.
