When I was 19, I worked double shifts in the summer to pay for college. I worked 80 hours one week and 88 hours the next week working as a vacation relief in a plywood mill doing heavy manual labor. The longest shift I pulled was a straight 32 hours pulling plywood on a green chain. I have never met anyone that paid all but $800 of their college costs through such sheer damn hard work.
I was going home through the school zone and doing the legal limit, probably about 1 or 2 in the morning, when all of the sudden I have flashing lights, I pull over assuming it’s about a broken tail light or something. They did not have two way radios then. After waiting 7 to 15 minutes, I get out of my car and turn to go to the police car. I turn to face a loaded gun shoved in my face. The street light showed it was fully loaded. I kept still and quiet and raised my hands. Then I turned around so the cop could pull out my drivers license and union card to verify the fact that I did live in the town and did work at the mill. He said something that I could not understand. I kept my hands up until he got back in the car and left. Then I shook like a leaf. I went through a tornado when I was a kid and I was so scared but this was worse. I drove home slowly because I was still shaking from the adrenaline rush of sheer fear.
I didn’t go to sleep, but I would shake some times. About 6 AM, I walked down three doors on my street and knocked on the chief of police’s door. He had known me for 12 years. He and my boy scout leader tried to get me a Boy Scout life saving award for jumping into a flooded creek and pulling out two kids when they both knew that I was afraid of water and couldn’t swim.
By the time that I had breakfast and fixed two lunches, the cop was fired. No union standing up for him, just my reputation as a congenital truth teller. Then I went out and pulled a double with no sleep and the weight of the come down from the adrenaline.
I hate anyone with a gun, cops, rent a gun thugs, military police, plain street thugs – all of them.

There is a resolution now put forth by the Klan wing of the GOP,or another slap in the face to underprivileged people of all races.
Thanks, Rain. Really incredible, but it’s a testament to how desperate the GOP is these days. I just hope the Dems put up a strong candidate against this McCotter moron in the next election.
